Nikon Introduces World's Largest Zoom Range, High-Resolution Stereomicroscopes

04.06.2013

Nikon Instruments, Inc. todayu announced the introduction of two all new stereomicroscopes, its Nikon SMZ25 and SMZ18 systems. Ideal for all bioscience applications, these new microscopes meet the increasing need of scientists for imaging systems capable of spanning spatial scales from single cells to whole organisms.

The SMZ25 features a breakthrough in zoom technology, the innovative Nikon Perfect Zoom System, which enables the world's largest zoom ratio of 25:1, superior resolution, and exceptional fluorescence transmission capability. THe Perfect Zoom System enables this uncompromised zoom range and resolution all within a compact zoom body and objective lens design. Nikon's new research stereomicroscope series offers both the automated zoom model, SMZ25, as well as the more economic, manual-intelligent zoom model, SMZ18. Both can be equipped with a variety of automated and intelligent accessories including z-focus, LED Dialight intensity control and epifluorescence filter cube selection.

The SMZ25 also features an Auto Link Zoom (ALZ) function, which automatically adjusts the zoom factor to maintain the same field of view when switching objective lenses, enabling seamless viewing at different scales. The incredible resolution at high zoom magnification provides researchers with a powerful macro-to-micro, all-in-one imaging system.

The new systems are also the first stereomicroscopes to use a fly-eye lens on an epi-fluorescent attachment. This ensures bright and uniform illumination even at low magnifications, resulting in uncompromised uniformity in brightness across a large field of view.

New 2013 WPI Catalogue

10.04.2013

WPI logo Apr 11(1).jpgThe new 2013 WPI catalog has arrived, and it is packed full of some exciting new products. From new surgical instruments and some trendy new binocular loupes to a live cell imaging system, you will find it all described in the catalogue.

The muscle physiology line has added the Biofluorometer for fluorescence spectroscopy. It is a highly flexible LED-based fluorometer for many life science applications, like ratiometric calcium detection using FURA-2 and ATPase detection. The Optical Sarcomere Spacing system is also brand new. It is available for use with the Cell tester. Take a look at the Horizontal Tissue Baths, too. All the SI-H products are made in the USA.

The Live Cell Imaging incubation chamber has a unique diffusion grid with input and return vents to provide an air flow pattern for consistent even heating. STEV is the stagetop environment chamber for short or long term studies of live cells. It allows you to control both temperature and carbon dioxide levels in the chamber.

Many other products, including a benchtop autoclave, a new microfluidics offering, the Nanoliter 2010 injection pump, new digital stereotaxic frames and student microscopes, can be found in this year's catalogue.

Demonstration of High Performance Spectroscopy System

02.04.2013

PI.jpg

We will soon be receiving a high-performance spectroscopy system from Princeton Instruments, for demonstrations to Australian and New Zealand researchers.

The system includes Princeton’s prize-winning Isoplane imaging spectrograph, which improves on traditional Czerny-Turner spectrographs by eliminating astigmatism and greatly reducing coma. The result is sharper images and sharper spectral lines with constant width across the focal plane, giving improved signal to noise ratio and dynamic range.

The detector is Princeton’s Pixis 400BRX which provides the following outstanding performance:

• Quantum efficiency >90% throughout the visible and near-infrared
• Deep thermoelectric cooling
• Extremely low readout noise
• No etalon effect

The system is controlled by Princeton’s new Lightfield software which combines complete control over Princeton Instruments’ cameras and spectrometers with easy-to-use tools for experimental setup, data acquisition and post-processing.

The system will be available for demonstrations from early May. Please contact us if you wish to arrange a demonstration in your lab!

Microscope enhancement for Fluorescent Spectrometers

27.02.2013

Edinburgh Photonics logo.jpg

Edinburgh Instruments, Photonics Division, announces the addition of a combined microscope and imaging camera to Edinburgh Photonics FLS980 and FLS920 range of photoluminescence spectrometers further enhance the capabilities of these powerful instruments. The microscope-camera combination allows measurement of specific points within a sample and for imaging with monochromatic excitation/illumination.

Either upright or inverted microscopes can be coupled to the spectrometers via optical fibres. Imaging is possible with widefield excitation or in spot mode with approximately 1µm spatial resolution. Cameras are available for both visible and for NIR regions up to 700nm, and all microscopes and cameras can be retrofitted to the spectrometers.

The FLS980 and FLS920 are high performance spectrometers using single photon counting techniques for steady state and lifetime measurements in fluorescent and phosphorescence.

The spectrometer software provides full control of the microscope, including automated microscope
stage scanning and data acqusitions for imaging.

A choice of configurations provides measurement versatility.

Semrock.jpg

Semrock, Inc. has announced the release of the 2013 Master Catalog. The new 116-page, full-color, catalog of optical filters and related products, contains new Technical and Product Notes along with a large selection of new products recently introduced.  With this release Semrock has introduced over 30 new thin-film filters for fluorescence microscopy and measurements, Raman spectroscopy, and other laser analytical instrumentation applications.

Among the standouts of this print edition is the expansion of the EdgeBasic™ product family.  These long-pass edge filters are designed to provide deep blocking at the laser wavelength at a value price, and now cover 23 laser wavelengths.  Coming in Q2 is the Semrock Fresco™ tunable filter system, which utilises VersaChrome technology to provide continuous spectral tunability over the visible range.

The PulseLine™ product family is specifically designed for femtosecond pulsed laser applications, and Semrock now offer a line of low-dispersion beamsplitters with four different splitting ratios and for either s- or p-polarized light.  These beamsplitters, similar to the high reflectivity mirrors previously released, operate over the tuning range of a Ti:S ultrafast laser (650 – 1100nm).

Exceptional Semrock services highlighted in the catalog include our same-day shipping policy, 2-day custom-sizing, and a 30-day no-hassle return policy.  All Semrock filters are covered under the company’s five-year warranty.
